CM Punk
Hey everyone, this is my first official wrestling wrap up on Tumblr. I hope you all enjoy it. Please note I am merely giving my opinion and those opinions do not reflect anyone elses but my own. I will do my best to remain unbiased toward any one specific brand or superstar. If you have any comments or suggestions, please by all means feel free to post and comment. Also not I'm not a professional writer so if i slip up...suck it! Now on to the good stuff.

This past Monday, RAW was live in Boston, MA. I should note that I'm relatively pissed I didn't make the show because the Garden is only 45 min. from my house. Nonetheless RAW has been on a roll lately and WWE took advantage of that by opening the show with a newly reinstated CM Punk. Hot off his last promo (which by the way, was one of the best promos in the past decade), Punk came out with a megaphone ensuring he will be heard whether or not his microphone gets cut off. He did his usual sit down in the middle of the ring, asking everyone if he had their attention. He also mentioned that his "people" were getting calls from Jimmy Kimmel and ESPN Radio because he had the balls to say what no one else would. Punk mentioned it was funny that Vince was finally willing to give Punk everything he wanted once he had one foot out the door.

Cena comes down and does his usual stuff, talking about he has waited five years for Punk to finally speak his mind. Punk claimed he is best wrestler in the world. Cena replied that he was the best wrestler because he has the WWE title, and that he earned it. He told Punk everyone who has tried to step up, including JBL, Eddie Guerrero, and Kurt Angle, have all fallen. The Anonymous GM chimed in and said that Mr. McMahon was on his way and that he and Punk would have a live contract signing in the middle of the ring. This was a fantastic promo by both Punk and Cena, and it was great to see the fans get behind Punk even though it was Cena's hometown.

RAW then became general RAW and a few matches ensued. Most of them were really basic as I believe they are trying to put most of the heat on the Vince/Punk/Cena angle to draw PPV buys. Cena defeated Michael McGillicutty and David Otunga in a 2-on-1 handicap match (pedictable Super-Cena). Kelly Kelly defeated Melina in a clean win (which was a surprise) which was followed by the Bella Twins mocking Kelly Kelly, calling her a "malnurtured nightmare". I believe the word they wanted to use was "malnourished" but whatever, they are hot and I'm surprisingly ok with what their theme song suggests "you can look but you can't touch".

The Miz cut another fantastic promo while sitting on top of a ladder. Well, it was going great until Swagger came out and tried to verbally outsmart Miz. To be honest as soon as Swagger came out, I hit the fast forward button on my DVR because I really can't stand Swagger. Don't get me wrong he is a great wrestler but totally unbelievable when he says he is going to do just about anything. The remaining superstars followed suit and basically said the same thing. They all had a say in how they are going to win MITB. Kofi surprisingly mentioned Edge and how careers are cut short because of this match (cheap pop? Maybe). Evan Bourne said basically the same thing. R-Truth did his thing, mentioning his fear of heights and spiders, which is irrelevant (the spiders thing) but R-Truth has been doing great things lately so I really didn't mind the goofiness of it. Alex Riley ran down to the ring (love his theme song) and chased Miz out of it. Finally, Alberto Dorito I mean Del Rio came out last and did his "it's my destiny!" schtick. I've got to admit I was never really a Del Rio fan but I've come around just as I did with The Miz and I truly believe the guy has an amazing future with WWE which will include multiple title runs.

The GM once again chimed in and said that there will be a 6 man tag match with Bourne, Kofi, and Riley facing off against Swagger, Miz, and Truth. Not really surprsing as everyone was already in their ring gear. This was a pretty good match with Riley hitting the Implant DDT on Swagger for the win, further boosting Riley's creditability as a serious contender. Del Rio came out once the match ended and basically crushed everyone with a ladder. Most likely because he is an ass and i'm sure he's pissed about his number 1 contendership status meaning absolutely nothing at the moment.

Dolph Ziggler, Vicki Guerrero, and Drew McIntyre made fun of Vince McMahon's atrocious breath stench which caused him to pit the two against Big Show. Not really a match as Big Show was counted out when he decided to take Drew down the ramp and put his head through the WWE logo on the stage. Mark Henry came out and charged Show like a rhino on crack and they both crashed through the floor. It was pretty awesome seeing two giants take a huge fall. It also looked like McIntyre may have been hurt when Show tossed him out of the way.

The last 15-20 minutes of the show was the contract signing. It started out with Punk and McMahon. and Cena followed suit later. I will give you a basic run down of what was said without typing it word for word because I feel it is something that should be watched. Here is the link if you want to watch it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4Aj_jqgRks Also note that the guy Vince shook hands with was Cena's father, John Cena Sr, who I have seen at a lot of local shows and is a really humble, sincere guy. The woman next to him was Cena's wife (sorry ladies).

Basically McMahon had drawn up a contract that consisted of everything Punk wanted, including his own collectors cup (which I would buy day 1), and his image on magazines, action figures, etc... He also mentions he would never join the CM Punk "Kiss My Ass club" and that he doesn't believe in public contract signings. He asks what CM actually stands for. To be honest I have no idea. I've heard 20 different things from 20 different sources including Chick Magnet, Cookie Monster, and Chicago Made. I wouldn't be surprised if it was Chick Magnet as he has had relationships with a few divas (they can't be easy to get I assume). Anyways Punk rips into McMahon, mocking his previous announcing days, and questioning Vince's lack of faith in Cena winning the championship. Vince begins calling Punk "Phil" (his real name) which was very cool as it obviously brought a sense of realism to the storyline.

Punk said his lawyers drew up another contract, which is already signed by Punk, and has a few provisions to it. Vince tells Punk not to push him. Punk does the exact opposite and literally starts to push Vince. You could tell Vince was pissed about it but there really wasn't anything he could do because he needs Punk to sign his contract. Punks provisions included his own jet, which seemed a little out Punk's character but I'll just assume it was in there to piss Vince off. Another provision that he wanted his face on EVERYTHING, including the titon tron, the ring ropes, the turnbuckles, the logos. He also mentioned that he wants Vince to bring back the old WWE ice-cream bars. The crowd gave Punk a huge pop and was followed by a "we want ice cream" chant. Vince looked at the crowd and said he didn't care what the people wanted, which played into Punk's whole point. Provision 3 included WWE starting production immediately on their newest film "CM Punk: The Movie". Finally, Punk stated he didn't care about Rock vs. Cena as the main event at WrestleMania 28, as he wanted whatever match he desired at the main event. Punk did mention one more quick provision that Vince will publically apologize to him. He said Vince is a hypocrite as he has an anti-bullying campaign, but he is the biggest bully of them all. Punk mentioned to Vince he fired a lot of good friends of his including Luke Gallows and Colt Cabana. Punk then goes on to say the following words which I think put him over in the eyes of the entire WWE Universe. He says "I am CM Punk, and I am the voice of the voiceless. You will apologize and you will like it."

This turn that CM Punk took was brilliant. It sort of reminded me of the end of "The Dark Knight" when Batman says he will be there to protect Gotham City even though the city hates him. It made CM Punk look human in the fact that, yeah he is an asshole but he does it because he cares about what the people want. If this whole firing thing is a ruse and CM Punk does indeed come back, he is going over as the ultimate anti-hero, which as we all know is the golden ticket in the WWE (Stone Cold, Rock, Randy Orton). Vince proceeded to apologize.

I know I said no word for word but I'm trying my best. This was at least a 25 minute segment and there is a lot to cover, but make sure you watch the video as you'll get a better understanding as to why it was an amazing promo.

Cena came out once again and told Punk that while he may know what the fans want, he is still in fact walking out on them after Sunday's PPV. Cena says unlike The Rock (of course he had to throw that in there), he knows Punk is not that guy. Punk says he remembers Wrestlemania 22 when he was hanging off the side of Cena's car. He says Cena was the underdog and while Cena believes he is still the underdog, he is not. Punk claims he is the underdog and Cena has become what he hates, a dynasty, just like all of Boston sports teams. He says that Cena and Boston, have become the New York Yankees. As a guy from Massachusetts, Punk has a point as much as I hate to admit it. Cena does what any face does when they have no response, and hits Punk out of the ring. Punk sits at the top of the ramp, rips up his contract, and says he'll go be the best in the world somewhere else. the show closes.

Punk, Cena and Vince did a great job of really hyping up the match this sunday. As I've said before, I believe this is one of the best storylines in the past decade. It's raw, it's real, and it's what the WWE is missing in their current product right now, and I know countless others who feel the same way. It also goes to show you that this can be accomplished even with the "PG" rating slapped on the product. It can work, and it appeases both the younger audience, and the generation who have stuck with the product for years. It certainly raises a lot of possibilities after the PPV. Cena could turn heel, while Punk becomes a tweener (anti hero); Punk could win, leave with the title, and Cena gets "fired" giving him some time to heal his injuries so he doesn't suck at Wrestlemania. Someone could also cash in their MITB briefcase so Punk can't leave with the title. As the old catchphrase goes, "Anything can happen in the WWE" which makes it exciting to watch.  I personally cannot wait for Money In The Bank.

TNA Destination X logo

I'm going to make the Destination X wrap up really quick and next time they will be separate. Baiscally, TNA has been on a roll lately and I've tuned in more than I have in the past year. Destination X was a great PPV and that's because TNA is great when they feature those X-Division guys. It's great they brought back the six-sided ring for the PPV. The two matches I enjoyed the most was the four-way match for the TNA contract which included Jack Evans, Low-Ki, "Double A" Austin Aries, and Zema Ion. Everyone was fantastic in the match and it was exciting from start to finish. My broski Double A won the contract but I wouldn't be surprised if they signed someone else from the match. I enjoyed the "sign them all" chant from the crowd as well!

Another match I enjoyed was RVD vs. Jerry Lynn. This was again a great match and reminded me of their many matches in ECW (one of the reasons ECW was so great was because of these guys). RVD eventually won the match after a five-star frog splash. The only thing I didn't like was I felt there wasn't really a sufficient build up to the match. I feel the stakes should have been higher as these guys deserve the spotlight.

The last match I thoroughly enjoyed was the main event which was Christopher Daniels vs. A.J. Styles. Their match was nothing short of amazing and really brought an "old school TNA" flavor to the PPV. The two told a great story throughout the match and it was great to see two "faces" (good guys) in the main event rather than the typical good guy vs. bad guy routine. A.J. Styles won via a "spiral tap" from the top rope onto Daniels. The two embraced and raised each others hand to end the PPV. The best of the X-Division truly shined in the PPV and TNA management should take note of their performance. It was probably the best PPV I've seen all year. P.S. I loved the fact that they brought back Shark Boy! Here is the run-down of all the matches for the PPV (credit to camelclutchblog.com for the results):
  1.    KAZARIAN DEF. SAMOA JOE IN 11:19
